This summer, let your creativity run wild and make something special to serve and display your finger foods on top of. My friends and I always love to get together and share delicious foods and also express our creativity through fun DIY projects. I thought these Artsy DIY Cheese Boards would be a super fun project, and no matter your skill level, these were so fun and easy to make, it’s hard not to create something cute, unique, and useful.

You may have noticed lately, that Dr Pepper® has a wide variety of new designs on their 20oz bottles and 12oz cans. It seems like they have hundreds of different designs, and they range from retro and vintage designs (much like old advertising art that my family collected throughout my life), all the way up to more modern designs. Below, you can see a variety of these Pick Your Pepper designs.

These designs really inspired me to create an art project of my own, and while these Artsy DIY Cheese Boards would make a great presentation at your own parties, these would make exceptional personalized gifts, too!

It’s our creativity that draws us together, and these Artsy DIY Cheese Boards are sure to please your guests, and impress a crowd!

MATERIALS NEEDED:

Inexpensive wood or bamboo cutting boards

Paint (a sample paint color from a hardware store works well *Make sure you choose a paint that is safe for food surfaces)

Paint Brush

Painter’s Tape

Water Resistant decoupage medium

Paper to cover work surface

Scrapbooking Papers

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. For the first board, affix letter stickers to boards, and also use painter’s tape to section off the part you will paint. This technique is much like color blocking.

  2. Next, paint the designated section 2-3 coats, making sure to cover the area around the letters super well. Do not apply too much paint, or the letter stickers will begin to peel from the moisture.

  3. Let dry, and using a toothpick, carefully peel up a corner of the letter stickers. Repeat until all letter stickers have been removed, and also peel off your painter’s tape. That’s it! Serve with tasty snacks and hand wash. Feel free to apply a food-safe water resistant coating.

  4. For the second board, tape off the section you will paint, and add 2-3 coats of a second color of paint.

  5. Once dry, simply cut out a design from colorful scrapbooking paper, and decoupage on top of the painted section. Feel free to also coat in a food safe, water resistant medium. Enjoy!

This post helped me relive my days in art classes. Many of my friends are also artists, and whenever we get together, we love to share food and create art together! This is actually a project that both men and women would have a lot of fun creating.

GET THE SNAPCHAT FILTERS

Each 20oz bottle of Dr Pepper showcases these new designs and has a Snapchat code, which unlocks a filter that actually matches the bottle design! I originally thought there would be one universal filter, but each one is different, and so cute! My favorite was the Shutterbug filter, featuring retro camera drawings and other cute graphics.

I also used the Shutterbug theme on one of my cutting boards. I found the cutest scrapbooking paper with a camera print, and was able to cut out a camera shape and adhere it to the cutting board.

HOW TO USE THE FILTERS:

  1. Take photo of yellow Snapchat icon on any Dr Pepper Pick Your Pepper 20oz bottle with your phone.

2.) Open Snapchat, and click on your profile icon on the top left of your app. This will bring up a new page that allows you to Add By Snapcode.

3.) Find the photo of the icon in your camera roll, and select it. Snapchat will scan your photo, and “grab” the code. It then gives you the option to “Unlock for 1 hour” (see below).

4.) Lastly, snap a photo of anything you want, and then swipe your filters to the right, and the Dr Pepper ones should appear!

Below, preview the filters...
